Join us for the November edition of our Building the Middle webinar series! Since Casita-sponsored AB 1033 became law, we’ve been sharing resources on how cities and counties can implement the new allowance for ADUs to be sold separately as condos. For this webinar, presenters will share an overview of how ADU condo conversions work and how cities can opt in. Presenters include:
Martina Davis, Planning staff from City of San Jose, the first jurisdiction to opt in to AB 1033. She’ll share the steps to opt-in, elements of their ordinance update, and review the city’s new public-facing application materials
Real estate attorney Jay Drake from Reuben, Junius & Rose, who worked with Casita Coalition on our AB 1033 guidance memo—he’ll share updates to the resource and walk us through basic condo info
Casita Coalition board chair Rafael Perez will give an overview of financing considerations for various ADU condo development scenarios
Lowering the land cost for new homes is an important strategy in building the middle. ADUs achieve this by using underutilized backyards. Subdividing parcels into smaller lots is another way to keep land costs low. Recent CA legislation, including SB 9 and SB 684, focused on simplifying the process, shortening timelines and making it more predictable.
Join us on Friday July 26th at 11:00a for Building the Middle: Land Division Options for a conversation with builders and designers using urban lot splits and small lot subdivisions for infill development.
New Resource! John Kevlin from Reuben, Junius & Rose will share highlights from our new co-authored implementation guide for cities and counties to create streamlined small lot subdivision ordinances under SB 684
Nolan Gray from CA YIMBY will provide an update on current bills seeking to fine-tune SB 684
BuildCASA is one of the most active urban-lot split companies in CA. Paul Steidl will show examples of their projects
Muhammad Alameldin shares highlights from the recent UC Berkeley Terner Center report on SB 9’s first year
Jill Cropp of Studio Cropp in Portland OR shows examples of cottage clusters and townhomes built using Oregon’s new middle housing rules
Derek Leavitt will share the basics of the current subdivision process in Los Angeles
